Kate's Sudden Medical Emergency

Donation protected
This is a bit long-winded, but I think you'll understand why...

On Sunday October 7th, 2018 my wife, Kate, had an aneurysm rupture inside of her head. She was just about to lay down for bed when she started experiencing the "worst headache of her life".

I was 3,000 miles away on a job when I got the news, but by the grace of God her sister Kristi was staying at our house and persuaded Kate that it was time to go to the hospital. I cannot tell all of you just how grateful I am that Kristi was there and pushed for this because after arriving at the local ER and dealing with some serious incompetence and a life-threatening misdiagnosis, Kate went into a seizure, right there in Kristi’s arms.

Kate was immediately rushed to Emory Hospital in Atlanta where they immediately drilled a hole in her skull to help drain excess fluids that were leaking from the aneurysm (this relieves pressure from the fluids that were pressing on her brain). Shortly after the operation Kate had an angioplasty done, where a coil is inserted into the brain to stop the bleeding and kill the aneurysm.

Just mentioning this now and reliving a moment I couldn’t even be there for is harder than you will ever know, but nothing as hard as what Kate had to endure—the pain she must have felt and the uncertainty of what would come next.

The second I received call from Kristi, I made my way back home 8 hours later. And now, we are both taking up residence in the ICU at Emory while she recovers. She’s still in critical condition, but she's improving and making great strides each day. But until that tube is removed, there's no way we are uncorking the champagne. Of course once the tube is removed, Kate is tentatively expected to be able to go home, tube free and begin her own rehabilitation—pretty much meaning chilling out at the house and taking it easy for a month or two.

So that’s where we are now. And here’s where we are asking for your help…

About 4 weeks ago Kate left her job to begin a new career. Her medical insurance stopped the day she left and her new insurance won’t begin until after her 4th week of employment at her new job. As infamous Babbs luck would have it, the aneurysm happened during her 3rd week. Just a wonderful perfect storm of timing. At the moment it appears she won’t be covered nor receiving any disability. As of writing this I should be able to retro-actively add Kate to my current insurance plan through SAG and that would be amazing, but it’s not a sure thing yet and we still aren't off the hook financially. In fact, the financial situation we find ourselves in (after moving to Georgia from Los Angeles, buying a house and starting new jobs) is not looking good and we are asking for anyone who knows and loves us to help us out in our greatest time of need.

We need your help and we need it pretty soon :(

If you know me, then you’re well aware of my skepticism of crowdfunding and asking for money in general, so I take this ask very seriously if not with some hint of shame. Trust me, if there was an alternative, I wouldn’t even be writing this. But Kate’s life and our entire future hangs in the balance and I need to put that skepticism aside so I can help both of us move forward while she recovers.

Between the maximum amount Kate will have to pay through SAG's insurance, our mounting medical and personal bills while we are both out of work now, the medication needed for her recovery and Kate’s inability to work for a very long time, your generous contributions will help supplement the very little savings we have left to get her back up and running again soon.

If any of your kind donations are NOT used, I will gladly return you your money right back.

Simply put, we were not ready for a life dropkick like this and your help means the absolute world to us..

Sincerely,

Ryan & Kate Babbs
