Monday Tragedy stuck the lives of the Travis, Kate and their 3 children. For those of you that don't know Kate was hit by a semi truck at 96 north of Borculo in Grand Rapids https://www.hollandsentinel.com/news/20191223/zeeland-woman-two-kids-hurt-in-head-on-crash .
She was an innocent bystander as a truck hit her and her children head on. Kate has been lucky to survive as she was trapped in the car for hours while emergency personnel worked to extract her from the vehicle. Her children survived the crash with only a few injuries, but Kate was not as lucky. She sustained many injuries that required her to be excavated to the hospital via Air-Med, and she has had multiple surgeries over the course of the last 4 days.
Despite the outcome of the events, Kate is doing well and in good spirits. With that being said, she has a long road ahead of her to recovery. She has currently gone through surgery to piece back together her shattered wrist. Her left had sustained ligament and tendon damage as well. The injuries to her right leg are so severe that we are not sure at this point if it is salvageable. She has already undergone two major surgeries and has many more ahead of her along with extensive rehabilitation. She also has the possibilty of not returning to work at this time because some of the injuries were extensive. We will be updating this account with progress as we learn more.
Kate has a very very long road ahead of her for recovery. At this point doctors and surgeons are unsure if she will be able to return to work. This puts her family in a very hard position financially and emotionally. We are currently asking for donations to help support them during these difficult time. Kate will be unable to work at this current time and the family will be in need of help until they can work through what will come of the accident as well as if she will be able to return to work. All proceeds will go to helping to cover any cost for baby sitting, food for the family, as well as bills they may get behind on due to Kate and Travis missing work.
Currently Kate is still hospitalized and was not able to attend Christmas with her family. While she is focusing on recovery, we are working hard to make sure that the family does not lose their house and their children get the best care they can as Kate continues to go through her surgeries and rehabilitation. Katie is a loving mother, friend, sister and partner. We love her so much. Anything you can do to help is so appreciated!
