Kate Schwenke & Brent Lovett

On October 18, 2023 around 7:00 pm, Lincoln Police Officers and married couple, Brent Lovett and Kate Schwenke, came upon a vehicle accident at Highway 43 and Saltillo Road near Lincoln, NE while off duty. Lovett and Schwenke got out of their separate vehicles to go help the parties involved in the initial crash.

While rendering aid, a Chevy bolt driven by an unknown driver, didn’t see the crash and hit the vehicle that was stalled in the intersection from the initial crash. The Chevy bolt struck Lovett and Schwenke as well.

Officer Lovett was taken to the hospital by helicopter with serious injuries to his head and abdomen and faces a long road to recovery. Lovett still remains in the ICU at a nearby hospital.

Officer Schwenke was transported to the hospital by ambulance and released late Wednesday night after being treated for a leg injury. Schwenke is still battling injures from the accident. 

As both Lovett and Schwenke remain off duty due to injury and other personal reason, if able, please assist with the couples medical expenses, bills, etc. Thank you.
