Kate Monagan (Leukart)
Kate recently passed away after over a decade of painful MS and a more recent very strong fight with cancer. If this news comes as a shock, you’re not alone. Kate fought cancer like she did everything else in her life: privately and with an overriding concern for others. If you stubbed your toe in the last few years, she probably she reached out to see how she could help. If you had a new pet, a sick pet, an old pet or a young pet—she definitely reached out.
It’s in that sprit of compassion, affection and generosity—with a dash of distraction—that we honor Kate by supporting animals that had no one else. In lieu of flowers, please do the same by donating to this go fund me for Hound Haven. It’s an organization from which she and her unbelievably supportive and loving husband Andy Monagan welcomed one of their rescue dogs Hersh - and that meant the world to Kate.
For someone home-bound for so long, Kate has left a big chunk out of all of our lives. We miss her dearly so we carry on the way she’d want us to, with no fanfare but an abiding kindness for anything other than ourselves. Hug and kiss your animals (and each other) “you have to actually do that” she would say.
