Hi, I’m Kate Hambleton—a 20-year-old martial artist from York, a Veterinary Medicine student at the University of Nottingham, and now… a history-maker. This August, I’ve been selected to represent British Universities at the European Universities Combat Championships (aka EUSA) 2025 in Warsaw, Poland—in not one, but TWO sports: karate and taekwondo. It’s the first time any British athlete has ever competed in two disciplines at the European University Combat Championships and I’m proud (and a little nervous!) to be the one doing it.

Why I Need Your Help
The costs of international competition—including travel, accommodation, kit, and entry fees—are entirely self-funded. This is where you come in. I’m raising £2,000 to cover my expenses for Warsaw so I can focus on my training and proudly represent York and my university on the international stage. I began my martial arts competitive journey at 14yrs. I train with the Haxby Shotokan Karate Club in York. Three years ago, I expanded my training to include Taekwondo with York Allstars Taekwondo. Over the past six years, I’ve travelled across the UK—and even beyond—seeking out the best coaching, training opportunities, and competitions I could find. Often, I’ve been the only competitor representing my clubs at these events. It hasn’t been easy. The early years demanded relentless dedication, resilience, and a lot of faith. But I never gave up—and now the hard work is paying off. This past year, I’ve proudly earned multiple championship titles and proven I can compete at the highest levels. I’ve worked my way to the top—but every step of the journey has been self-funded through part-time jobs and the incredible generosity of supporters like you. As I continue to chase bigger goals, including international competitions, every donation helps cover entry fees, travel, accommodation, training, and equipment. Your support genuinely makes a difference.
