Okay, so if you know Kate, you know her love of the animals, and she's been particularly attached to Sam, the neighborhood cat, who claimed her as a mom. She has talked about him incessantly for months and seems to identify with his adorable scoundrel-y ways on many levels. Sam was hit by a car this week and his hip was pretty well destroyed, so Kate brought him in and returned home with thousands of dollars in vet bills--something around $3700. Eek.

She doesn't know I'm doing this and she's certainly not going to ask anyone to help her with this, but I will. It's a huge expense, even with her working full-time at her nonprofit plus driving Uber in the evenings. My primary concern is that she won't take care of herself because she'll be spending all of her money taking care of Sam. This, in fact, is likely. The hope is that many hands could at least make lighter work of this for her and let her take some deep breaths. She has a whole lot on her plate. 

I'm not posting this widely, just to friends, and again, she doesn't know about it. That said, if you know of other folks who love Kate, please send this along to them. Obviously, do what you can--of course folks are going through their own hard times lately. I'm kicking in $50 now and more with the next paycheck, but do what you can, or just send her good thoughts if that's what you can do--it all helps.
