On March 19th, 2020 we tragically lost Kassa Gebyhu after battling lung and heart disease for 8 months. He endured months of suffering while hospitalized at Swedish Medical Center, leading up to his final days here with us. He leaves behind his wife, Nunu Tefera and 3 beautiful daughters, Bethel, Meron, and Rekik. His family and friends are devastated, and sadly his wife is left to raise three young girls on her own.
In 1985, Kassa arrived to the U.S at just 20 years of age, leaving behind his family back home in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He started off living in Houston, Texas where he worked as a forklift driver and other contractor jobs. He also went to school and received his diploma at a local community college. He met his wife, Nunu, in Houston and soon after had their eldest daughter. They moved to Seattle, Wa in 1997 and have been living here ever since.
Kassa was a man of many talents, he spoke many different languages including Spanish, Arabic, Tigrinya and he loved to cook, especially for others. Not only was he incredibly smart and talented but also caring in every way possible. He had a big heart and always was the first to help others in need, no was never his answer towards anybody. His generosity and outgoing personality allowed him to befriend many people throughout his life. He became a beloved figure in the Seattle Ethiopian community.
He has accomplished a lot, but the one thing he was most proud of was being a father and a husband. He took pride in being a father to his three daughters. He was the ultimate Girldad, and enjoyed every part of it. He will truly be missed by many people in the community.
We are hoping to raise money to help the family pay for his funeral service. It will also help to pay for his medical expenses that has incurred during his hospitalization. Myself and his eldest daughter are the ones in charge of this fundraiser.
