Kassidy and Kinsley Medical Expenses

Hello Everyone,

My wife and I are amazed every day by the strength and resilience of our two girls, Kassidy and Kinsley. In 2017 Kinsley's health took a turn down a difficult road. She was hospitalized after completely refusing to eat, and losing a significant amount of weight in a short period of time. We took her to the pediatrician and she was admitted immediately. She wasn't acting like our kid and we knew something serious was going on.

During our stay at the hospital Kinsley was administered an IV for fluids but her condition continued to worsen, she grew weaker, and developed a high fever. Trying to get her nutrients, a NG tube (feeding tube through the nose), was placed for feeding purposes. Several blood tests were done to try to understand what was happening with Kinsley, and it became apparent that she has severe chronic neutropenia and had an infection that was wreaking havoc on her body. Neutropenia is an immune deficiency that makes Kinsley more susceptible to infections and illness. Kinsley still had the issue of refusing to eat orally. After many meetings and tough conversations with doctors we were finally able to convince them that placing a G-Tube (surgically placed feeding tube) now, and dealing with the neutropenia later was the right path forward for Kinsley. We were watching our child worsen and knew she needed the nutrients to help her body fight to get better.

Fast forward 6 months with many blood tests and many specialist visits later we finally had a treatment plan, not only for her, but for her sister Kassidy as well who was discovered through blood tests of her own to have the same rare blood condition. Luckily, there is a treatment for this condition called GCSF injections. Unfortunately, this treatment is ultra expensive and not typically covered by most insurance plans. Starting in 2021 our insurance will cover the medications differently than they have in the past resulting in a heavy financial burden for our family. When you couple this with already existing medical expenses we are working to pay off it becomes insurmountable.

For those of you who know me, you know I am the last person to ask for help. I am reaching out now because this situation is serious for my girls. Without these injections they are susceptible to illness, infections, and recovery is a serious issue for them once they have an infection or become ill. These risks are extremely dangerous for them and something as a simple cut on their finger could result in a hospitalization from a severe resulting infection without these injections. The fact of the matter is that without help, I won't be able to provide this critical treatment to my girls. These injections are what allow my girls to have a quality of life where they don't have to be cautious about every little scrape or bump. They can be kids and play like they are worry free.

Any assistance that you can provide will mean the world to me, my wife, and my two girls. Thank you so much for reading, and I am so thankful for your support.
