Hello, my name is Tracy Martin. I am a long time friend of Mark and Shauna McAlpin. Many of you have been asking if there was another way to help Mark and Shauna. Well, now there is - a GoFundMe account that is set up solely for Mark and Shauna. All money contributed will go towards assisting Mark and Shauna with the legal bills that have sky-rocketed to the tune of $65,000.00+.
For those of you who do not know the story, Mark and Shauna have been fighting for custody of their great-nephew, Kash. They received a call one evening in May of 2013, from the Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services (CPS) that Kash was taken into their custody, a couple weeks earlier, and they needed a family member to care for him for the next 90 days. Without a moment of hesitation, they got in their car and made the long drive to Kerrville, TX to pick up this sweet baby. Kash came to them with very little … before they even made it back home, they had to stop at Target to by the bare necessities it takes to care for a 11 month old baby. Well days turned into months without any change from the other parties – Kash’s biological parents. CPS then requested that Mark and Shauna petition the court for custody of Kash. Again, without hesitation, and total selflessness, they secured the services of an attorney, and in January of 2014, they began this legal battle.
Your probably thinking, “Legal battle? How could that be? This is a no-brainer … CPS even suggested this.” Well, sadly, it has been a battle because they biological parents, who have yet, to this day, complied with CPS’s requirements, have been trying to fight this. During this time, a third party even intervened in the case. Keep in mind that neither the biological parents nor the third party have given so much as $1.00 to help Mark and Shauna support Kash with his everyday needs. Now, 28 months later, Kash is where he is suppose to be; safe with a Mommy, Daddy, and many, many family members, who don’t just love him, but make sure he is cared for in every way a child should be. We all know Mark and Shauna … God knows, no child could ask for better parents, and we know that, too.
This legal battle is not quit over, but seems to be coming to a close. Their legal fees have grown to astronomical amounts and have taken a toll on them both. They are ready to put all this behind them so they can move on to the next chapter; living life and raising Kash.
