Hi everyone my name is Wintana Kahsu, please read my Friend's Story and help him reach his educational goals.
My name is Kashetu Momodu Jr. I was born on September 14, 1991 in Nigeria, West Africa where I lived for 18 years. I am the first child of four brothers - one of which has special needs. Throughout my childhood I was reminded of my role as the first child to achieve the right goals & be a good example to my three younger brothers. I started school at an early age & with immense effort led to an early high school graduation at the age of 15. During my time in school, I always wanted to be in a position to help people, my community, & the world overall.
From here,I began my Bachelor’s degree in the United States as an international student at Laney College, Oakland in 2010 and received an Associate degree in Science on May 2014. During my tenure at Laney College, I was determined to successfully complete my educational goals & eventually be able to help my brother who needs special care. I worked at the Laney College library and the campus Welcome Center; both jobs helped me improve my communication, customer service, problem solving & team-work skills. I also joined the student body government at Laney College where I assisted in student awareness and development.
I transferred to San Francisco State University to complete my Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering and a minor in Computer Engineering. In the Fall of 2014, my father, who was funding my educational expenses lost his job due to the falling economic state of my country. Since then, my journey through San Francisco State University has seriously affected me socially, emotionally, physically and financially, due to the many challenges I am facing, causing my grades to fall to add to all this my Mother's health is also being affected due to the fact that they cannot afford her medicational bills.(diabetes and high blood pressure). As a result, I am now attending classes through the Open University Program at San Francisco State University so I can improve my grades on which I have a year and half left. If I can’t fix this problem I will not be able to complete my Bachelor’s Degree. To clear my outstanding debt to school and to finish my senior year, the estimated tuition is $25,000. As an international student I am unable to work off campus or apply for financial aid or any loans. Yet,
I have continued to attend all my classes because I am determined to finish my Bachelor’s Degree. I am willing to take all this negativity and use it as a driving force to get me to my ultimate educational goal. I really appreciate the fact that with your help I would be able to graduate, work and be able to support my family back in Africa. Thank you for taking your time to read about my story and any help would be really appreciated.
Thank you
