Kash to attend ABA therapy
Donation protected
Hi everyone! Thanks for taking the time to stop by this page. Asking for help feels pretty weird, so here we go:
In August, I decided to stay home with our son Kash who was showing difficulties in daycare environments. He’s worked really hard on developing new skills, but we knew something was not typical about him. On October 17, Kash got an Autism diagnosis from Blank Children’s Developmental Clinic. We are really grateful for the experts on his care team.
ABA (Applied behavior analysis) is the only therapy/treatment covered by insurance for kids with autism. It helps systematically teach new skills, progress language and communication, and decrease harmful or socially unacceptable behaviors. Kash is extremely smart, and very young, so we believe that a strong early intervention program in ABA will be absolutely life changing for him and our family.
However, in Iowa, the Medicaid disability waiver is over a 3 year wait. That means we would have to qualify at poverty level in order to receive any medical assistance, which again we are *grateful* to not qualify for. All of this means that it is extremely difficult for families like ours to afford the expert care that our son needs.
Karl’s company contributes $1400 to the $5,000 deductible; so we are left with the remaining $3,600 out of pocket cost before the insurance plan will cover ABA services for the year. And quite honestly, that’s $3,600 that we just don’t have.
Asking for help feels really weird, but I also know there are so many people who may be able to help us during this time while we work to get our son the best care that he deserves. Thank you so much for your consideration, positive vibes, prayers, and shares. #TheFutureIsSoBright
