Kaseke Primary School

Hey there!

My name is Billie, and my daughter and I recently traveled to Rwanda, as I would like to one day do NGO work in Africa. While there we came across a remote village called “Kaseke.” We were shocked by how little the people had. Most of the houses don’t have power and none of the houses have running water (the children walk miles daily to collect water from the lake to use for the household). Among the list of shocking things we encountered while in Kaseke was The Kaseke Primary School (KPS). The KPS is a state run school with approximately 820 students, 16 classrooms, and only 15 teachers (the kids go to school in shifts to accommodate size). At school children learn not only kinyarwanda (their national language) but English as well. By the time they finish primary school, they are able to test into secondary school at high numbers. This is an amazing feat given how little they have to work with, and the only chance the children have of leaving poverty. Yet, there are some children whose families cannot afford the price of a uniform, books, and lunch. The cost, of which, comes out to $15 FOR THE YEAR. Yes, one year. Oh, and, by the way, lunch consists of one hard boiled egg (as this egg might be the only protein a child gets in a week). I spoke with the principal, Sebigori Felecien, who gave me a list of the 122 students whose families could not afford the $15 a year. I’m attaching the list here.

What I’m asking is for you to sponsor one or two students for the year or beyond. Our goal is $2,000 to send the following kids to school for one year, but we would love to raise more so the children can continue their education past this year. Can you spare $15 to pay for a student’s education, uniform, books, and food?
