Ka's Path to Recovery: Beating Bone Marrow

Donation protected
My little sister Ka Xiong Vang did everything my parents could asked for.  She went to school, got married, and received her masters' degree in all. Her dream was to own a hobby farm and she was able to achieved that.  In an instance, all her dreams were shattered as she had to give up her 3 dogs and farm animals to save her own life. For about 2 years now, she is diagnosed with Bone Marrow Disease and has been in and out of the hospital for chemo-treatments, and in and out of the ICU fighting for her life and fighting to avoid leukemia. On top of that, medical bills keep piling up. No one in their mid 30's should have to go through this when all she wanted is to have a family of her own and run around with her dogs.

Her Bone Marrow Disease is severe enough that she needs a transfusion every week and is on the waiting list for bone marrow transplant. As her big bother, it's my job to protect her and when the nurse called and said "I am sorry, you are not a match," I could not hold back the tears as I could not even save her if I wanted to. Luckily, she was a match with a generous donor and is scheduled for her transplant on April 21st.

Her path to recovery will be a 6 month journey with 24 hour care, and she needs everyone's emotional and financial support. Since she has been sick for a long time, both she and her husband have used up their sick leaves, FMLA, and vacations. Once she undergoes the transplant, they will lose half of their income. She will be in the hospital for a month after the transplant then will transition to a hospital guest house for 2 to 3 months before being allowed to come home. In spite of this, their insurance does not cover all of their medical expenses. It's heartbreaking, the world we live in, you work so hard to earn everything you've dreamed for but when you need the most support beyond your controls, not even laws and regulations can save and retain your job; even when you are fighting for your life. Your donations even as little as $1 to $5 will help Ka and Chan get back on their feet, pay existing and future medical expenses, cover out of pocket charges for the hospital guest house, weekly travel expenses to Milwaukee for ongoing treatments, and fill the gaps for any missed income due to unpaid leaves. I will do my part to care for my little sister in any capacity that I can and I asked that my families, friends, colleagues, community, and generous donors do the same.

Often times, we categorized life events as urgent and important to us. In Ka's situation, your support is both urgent and important. Her life is important and the urgency to save her is urgent. As Ka fights to stay alive, I asked that you fight to pick her back up again and offer her a shoulder to lean on so she has something to come back to. Please help support Ka; together we can beat bone marrow disease and kick leukemia to the curb. Thank you for your consideration and contribution.
