Karter’s journey has been anything but easy, yet he continues to face every obstacle with courage, strength, and the biggest smile. At such a young age, he has already endured more than most people will in a lifetime.

Karter was diagnosed with Chiari Malformation, a serious neurological condition where brain tissue extends into the spinal canal, placing dangerous pressure on the brain and spinal cord. Along with this diagnosis, he also suffers from a very extensive syringomyelia (a syrinx on his spinal cord), which causes a fluid-filled cyst to form within the spine. This condition can lead to chronic pain, nerve damage, weakness, loss of sensation, mobility issues, and ongoing neurological complications. Karter’s has expanded throughout the majority of his vertebrae causing balance and bladder issues along with other major dysfunctions.

Despite previous surgeries and treatments, Karter is now facing another major brain and spinal cord surgery in New York. This surgery is critical in helping relieve pressure, prevent further damage, and give him the best chance at a better quality of life.

As a family, we are preparing for the emotional, physical, and financial burden that comes with traveling out of state for specialized medical care. Expenses for transportation, lodging, meals, missed work, medical costs, and recovery support are quickly adding up.

Anyone who knows Karter knows he is so much more than his diagnosis. He is strong, funny, resilient, and full of life. He continues to inspire everyone around him with his bravery and determination, even on the hardest days.
