Update Karters surgery has been moved up to February 6th !!! AMAZING NEWS !
Hi we are Miranda and Cory, Karters parents,
On August 11 2022 we welcomed our 4th child Karter into the world. He was our only baby that was required to spend time in the NICU. Karter was born with a right collapsed lung and was put on a CPAP machine for 24 hours. Fortunately the collapsed lung resolved itself and we spent the next 2 days being monitored waiting for blood work to come back.
On August 14 we were discharged and within 24 hours we had to call 911 because Karter was turning grey and was losing oxygen at an exceptionally fast rate.
Luckily my midwife was with us at the time and
checked his Sp02 and it was reading 78%.
We were admitted to the Alberta Children’s Hospital in Calgary for 2 days where they did further testing, echo, ecg, blood draws ect. Karter was diagnosed with VSD (ventricular septal defect) which is a hole in his ventricles. The hole is measuring 8-11mm and needs to be repaired. We are a single income family and now with the circumstances of Karters health, we have a lot of expenses to consider. Karters surgery is scheduled for February 17th, in just over a month. We will have travelling expenses from our home in Calgary to the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton. Parking at the hospital, household bills, child care, fuel, meals and much more are going to be very difficult to pay for during Karters lengthy stay. We are asking for help and extend our heartfelt thanks in advance to any and all help. Thank you for being apart of Karters journey and supporting our family during this time, we are incredibly grateful.
