Karolina's Hurricane Recovery Fundraiser!
Update 2: So much for the belief that the bathtub is the safest place to hide during hurricanes and tornados! The new cover photo is Karolina's bathtub!
Update: We've received several donations and are very excited! Karolina is now temporarily homeless, which is sad, but she's an optimist and believes that life is good! Her car was cut out of the trees by a friend and is driveable, so that is a blessing. And a good samaritan came along and started cutting up some of the other trees in the front yard!
Thanks to all who have donated so far! Your kindness is overwhelming! Much Love and Happiness to all of you!
Hi, I'm Sue-Ann, I'm from Inverness, Florida and I'm fundraising to help Karolina Borkowski recover from the devastating damages she suffered from Hurricane Ian today.
Karolina lives in Sarasota, Florida, and many hours ahead of the hurricane hitting Fort Myers, many, many miles south of Sarasota, what she believes to be a tornado picked up a tree and dropped it on her car! This morning, we said, thank God it didn't take out her home! As I write this, she's hiding in a closet with her dogs, because another tree has taken out her master bedroom and a third has taken out her lanai! Unbelievable!
I'm starting with a goal of $1,500 to help cover her car insurance deductible, so she can replace her car, or get it repaired, and replace some of her belongings that were destroyed today. If we raise this much, I'll increase it, and maybe we can help her to replace everything! Perhaps we can help her with moving expenses if she has to move. I will keep updating this information as things unfold in the coming days, weeks/months. However long it takes. She has no renter's insurance to help with any of this.
Karolina is a loving, caring person, a single parent who works multiple jobs, creates beautiful art to make whatever money she can, and lives paycheck to paycheck; often having less than $100 in her bank account. Today's disastrous events are simply devastating!
Karolina is a kind and generous person, often helping others. For example, when my husband and I were moving to Florida in 2017, she was doing very well as a real estate agent. Despite her busy schedule, she took an entire day off and, as a favor, drove hours to tour rentals for us, sending us videos so that we could choose our new home remotely from Massachusetts. Her generosity prevented us from spending extra weeks in a hotel while waiting for background checks to be completed. She refused to accept our offer to pay her for helping us!
I sent her money before I thought of starting this GoFundMe, but I am donating a small amount now as a gesture, to show that this is dear to my heart. No donation is too small. Every dollar helps! Thank you for taking the time to read this, for thinking of Karolina and considering helping her out of this tragic situation!
