If you're reading this page, it's because Karen Williams has lifted your spirit, healed your body, or put a smile in your heart - most likely all three, sometimes all at once. Karen has devoted her life's work to providing massage therapy that heals the body by transforming the energies that run through us and connect us to our life force. She helps us connect our bodies to our spirit and to Spirit and to each other. She has transformed this calling into a successful independent business, and like many independent business owners, her income is entirely dependent on her ability to show up for work.
Karen has not been physically able to stand, walk, or drive - much less work her way around a massage table - in over 2 months, and has another 4-6 months to go before she'll be able to work again. We can all imagine how terrifying it would be to face the next 6 months knowing that you have no way to generate income, and that you have exhausted options for disability or social security benefits (if you had any to begin with). Our dear friend and cosmic healer Karen is facing that reality, and needs a cosmic dose of Karma to kick in and see her through. Karen needs to focus her energies on recovery from two surgeries, and getting back in shape to face the next stage of her livelihood. The photo on the campaign is from Karen's birthday in June 2014, as she and Kozmo were hiking out with friends from Aloha Lake in Desolation Wilderness. A year later, Karen spent her birthday recovering from pneumonia, and her first month out of work in 2015. This put a big dent in her emergency savings. In August, Karen was on an easy hike to Spider Lake when she lost her footing, fell hard, and really messed up her right ankle and left shoulder.
Already low on savings, Karen is facing expenses from surgery in August to repair the radial fracture in her right ankle (imagine pins and plates, casts and crutches), and additional costs associated with surgery in November to repair her rotator cuff, spurs, and impingement in her left shoulder. With minimum monthly living expenses of approximately $2,500 you can see how quickly this adds up to overwhelming financial burden. Karen's expenses up to now are already nearly $10,000, and she hasn't even had the shoulder surgery yet! The surgeon predicts 4-6 months recovery for the shoulder, so that's another $10,000-15,000 that she has no way to earn. Her family has been generous and supportive, but again, just imagine if this were your journey - there's only so much 'spare' money that family can raise, and only so much that we could ask of any one person.
Which is why I'm setting up this GoFundMe campaign for our dear friend, teacher, healer, and sister Karen. One person can't give $20K, but several hundred can. Karen has invested her life in building a community of caring through spiritual and physical therapy, laughter, and love. How many of us have watched "It's a Wonderful Life" and thought 'yeah, I'd do that, I'd pitch in if one of my friends was on the brink of ruin (and insanity).' Maybe you can even imagine people coming down Highway 49 from all parts of Placerville, El Dorado County, and Sacramento to toss love and money into a basket in front of Kozmo's dog bed? Well, movies are in color now, and that basket looks a whole lot like a Go Fund Me donation page. Let's all show that we believe in the astounding power of karma, and give what we can to help Karen through this challenging stage of her journey.
Karen is already so grateful for all of the love, support, groceries, casseroles, dog walks, "alternative medicines," household chores, and endless ways that we've shown our love and support.
