Hi, my name is Ian Adams, and I’m an independent film director.
To date, I’ve written, directed, and produced three feature films entirely on my own time, personal budget, and with help from friends and family. For this one, I am joined by Nicky Fitzsimons, who will be producing this next feature film with me. Alongside this GoFundMe, we are applying for funding through various official channels in Ireland.
In my 9 years working in the Irish film Industry as an Assistant Director, I have met and worked with great talent who I am excited to say will join us in the making of this feature. As time goes on and we draw closer to filming, Nicky & I will be very excited to announce the Cast & Crew who are with us on this journey.
We are seeking community support to bring our next film to life — this time with your help. All funds raised will go directly toward essential production costs and meals on set.
We have produced a teaser trailer for the upcoming film to provide a glimpse of its visual style and overall tone, which is attached.
Click the link attached below.
The plan is to shoot the film in one block throughout a five-week production schedule. I’m committed to seeing this project through, and the three feature films I’ve completed stand as proof of that dedication.
Every donation, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference. Thank you for supporting independent filmmaking — and for helping us take this next step with a talented team behind us.
Please enjoy getting to know this movie better.
Synopsis:
James is a quiet, selfless man who spends his days caring for the elderly at a local nursing home. But when he returns home each night to his troubled housing estate, he's met with cruelty and violence from a gang of merciless thugs who see him as an easy target. One night, after a particularly savage beating, a mysterious stranger named David steps in. Calm, calculating, and oddly invested, David offers to make the harassment stop—permanently. What begins as protection quickly spirals into a chilling spree of calculated revenge. As the bullies start to vanish one by one, James’s true nature emerges. He’s not just accepting help—he’s orchestrating it, manipulating David into becoming his deadly enforcer. Now bound by blood and secrets, the two men seem unstoppable—but one question haunts the shadows: who exactly is David, and why is he so eager to help a man he just met?

Visual Style:
We want to take an approach that emphasizes realism in modern-day Ireland. The goal is to create a cinematic environment where the audience feels as though they are witnessing events unfold in real time. “I want them to feel like they are standing beside James for the whole movie.” To achieve this, we are going to make this as grounded and realistic as possible by shooting on a DSLR. The use of natural lighting will be maximized, preserving the raw, authentic atmosphere that defines the film’s aesthetic. Only minimal lighting will be introduced during night shoots, ensuring that even in darkness, the scenes retain their harsh, unfiltered realism.
Sound Design:
The sound design is meticulously crafted to enhance the stark, realistic storytelling, drawing inspiration from the atmospheric tension observed in "No Country for Old Men." There will be no score; the film will instead use only diegetic sounds—those noises naturally occurring within the world of the characters—to heighten the authenticity and immediacy of the narrative. Background music will be limited to what would realistically be heard in the environment, such as during party scenes. This approach aims to create a palpable sense of tension and claustrophobia, focusing on the ambient sounds that fill the silences between dialogue and performances. We want to hear every gritty and raw emotion through the unfiltered sounds of the characters' surroundings.
Directors Statement:
“I aim to create a film that taps into the primal satisfaction many of us feel when a bully gets their comeuppance. Growing up, I encountered individuals who thrived on belittling others, and there was an undeniable sense of justice when they finally faced the consequences of their actions."
However, this film is not just about vengeance; it delves into the complexity of bullying and the fine line between justice and retribution."Karma" follows the journey of James, a character who embodies the struggles many have faced at the hands of bullies. The audience will find themselves rooting for James, as his story is one that is both relevant and deeply relatable. In James' darkest moments, his friend steps in to support him, highlighting the profound power of true friendship. There is no better feeling than knowing someone has your back, ready to help you through anything to ensure your safety and well-being. What sets “Karma" apart is its fresh perspective on contemporary Irish cinema.
Recent Irish films and TV shows often focus on touchy historical subjects, the grief of losing family members, or the gritty underworld of gangland shootings and the drug trade. While these stories are important, I believe it's time to offer the Irish audience something wild, new, and exhilarating. "Karma" aims to fill that gap, providing a thrilling narrative that will have viewers on the edge of their seats, hands over their eyes one moment, and cheering for the protagonists the next."
