New Lungs for Karl

We are hoping to receive help for the transplantation surgery, lodging, and travel.
Karl was diagnosed with Interstitial Lung Disease, Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis in January 2015 after seeing his doctor for shortness of breath. Follow-up testing showed severe scarring in the lungs, that have progressively gotten worse over the last 3 years.
Karl was referred to the NW Regional Transplant Center, University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, WA. He’s been told he is in advanced stage or End Stage of this disease. He is being “Fast Tracked” through the testing process to be listed on the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS).
As caregivers, Karl, my daughter and I are required by the transplant center to live in the Seattle area for at least 3 months, so we need to relocate to the Seattle area to be close to the transplant center.
Karl struggles to do normal daily processes like walking to the bedroom or bathroom. Each step is a struggle to breath resulting in shortness of breath and exhaustion from the Rheumatoid Arthritis related ILD, in which Karl continues to use supplemental oxygen 24/7. He rarely leaves home except for Dr appointments, testing and treatments.
This is the 3rd Christmas we have not been able to spend time with family.
Karl is a 26 year an Army veteran, retiring in 1999. First Sergeant Karl Jorgenson enlisted in the Army at the age of 17 in 1972. His first enlistment was as an Infantryman serving in the 3rd Battalion 60th Infantry and later as an Airborne Infantryman serving in the 1st Ranger Battalion at Fort Stewart in 1974. Karl reenlisted in 1975 and changed his career path to aviation. I met him when we were both stationed at Fort Devens, Massachusetts in 1976. We married in 1977 and we have remained in love the last 40+ years. Karl served in Operation Desert Storm as an Operations Sergeant and First Sergeant. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his service in Operation Desert Storm. Karl retired from the Army in 1999 after 26 years of service
I, our adult children, and our granddaughter would love to see him feel better and stay with us as long as possible. We couldn’t imagine our lives without him. Any assistance toward this goal is appreciated.
