To those of you who do not know me, and my story, My name is Karla Howe. I am a single mother to 2 children. Ashton my oldest, and Madison, my youngest. I was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer in 2014. It was shocking news, and very hard to grasp. I started chemo therapy shortly after, and had new changes to my daily routine. It was very hard on my body and limited the things I could do. Check ups with my doctors every week through the whole process. I went through a double mastecomy April 2014. Followed by chemo and radiation 2 times. Making me a 4 time survivor. Gradually getting harder and harder to get by. Losing my strength and what's  left of my health. I'm very weak, and cannot stand for more than a few minutes, due to dizziness, and seizures. My two kids help me as much as they can, taking me to my doctors appointments, running errands for me, and checking in on me as much as possible. I'm currently living alone, with a nurse that comes by twice a week, helping me shower and do things I cannot do on my own. I have a nurse, a nursing aid, and OT and PT that come to my home. I've had 5 surgeries now, and more to come. I'm unable to drive myself, or get out and do things, as I once did. I am on disability, and a fixed income. The reason behind that is from breaking my back in 1998. I have been out of work ever since. It was difficult for me to get around due to my health issues, and adding cancer to the mix wasn't a move in the right direction. The chemo started making me really sick, causing seizures, and frequent trips to the ER. Spending months in the hospital with no change. I have been fighting very hard, trying to stay strong. In 2015 my cancer had metastasized and spread to my lungs. Just underwent reconstructive surgery, with complications. I will have more details next week after another CT scan. Even through my apartment I can barely walk to the restroom without help. Holding onto walls, and counters to get things I need.  As of right now, my insurance company is trying to help me get an electric scooter, so I can get around when I need too. Insurance is also trying to get me hospice care soon. The seizures are becoming more frequent, and more severe. They usually last for several minutes, jerking, unconsciousness, and falling into walls, and onto the floor not being able to control anything. This has been so scary and hard on our family. I have fallen countless times, and rushed to the ER. I recently had life alert installed in my home, my kids work on a daily basis and cannot always be there. We keep hoping for the best, but we keep getting dealt a bad hand. Not only has my family been there for me whenever it was needed, they have also had other things to worry about and take care of. It all seems a little unfair, with everything that's been going on. It really has been a bumpy ride for this family. I am about to start my 5th round of chemo, followed by radiation. Hoping for the best. Chemo is tough, but I am strong. Keep us in your prayers. We will not go down without a fight. There's always something, but I'm glad I'm here today. Thank you so much for your time, and God Bless you.
