To our dearest friends, family, and loved ones of Karlanita Gaston,

First, we thank you all for your heartfelt condolences, fervent prayers, and genuine concern as we process the loss of our daughter, mother, sister, wife, and forever friend. We feel seen and loved.

Our loved one departed this earth and joined her father and Heavenly Father on July 18th, 2022 due to complications from COVID. Friends, she fought heart and outlived several close calls. We shared her final moments with her and can assure you she transitioned peacefully. Karlanita’s request is to be cremated and to have her ashes released near a body of water— she loved the beach and fought for freedom in so many ways. We are making those arrangements and will communicate them in the near future here and through other avenues.

Please know that due to the nature of her death, the future gathering will be mask-only (KN95 or higher) and the family asks that you honor that request. We do encourage you strongly consider vaccination to protect yourself and those you love in preparation for her memorial.

Until then, we ask for your help. If you have pictures, words, or memories of Karlanita, you may send them to the family using the contact information below. We want to use them during her memorial service. We plan to channel Karlanita’s creative side. Friends and family may begin visiting at Karlanita’s home (address below) starting Wednesday, July 20th at 10:00 am to Sunday, July 24th. Her husband, our father, asks that guests leave by 7:00 pm each day so that we have time for ourselves. Without a doubt, you may call or reach out to the family to offer love and support as you are comfortable.
