Karla Bonfield's Recovery Fund
Donation protected
On July 20th, 2015, Karla and Jim Bonfield were involved in a serious motorcycle accident while riding on their bike with friends through the Ozarks. Both of them loved to take a road trip each summer to explore and enjoy the open road, living life to the absolute fullest.
Sadly, Jim passed as a result of his injuries, while Karla was airlifted to an ICU in Springfield, Missouri for a multitude of serious injuries. She is still undergoing various surgeries to help repair and heal her body as she moves towards an extended rehab period. She currently resides in a Progressive Care Unit at Mercy Hospital in Springfield where her two sons Mark and Matthew are taking care of her. They are hoping to transfer her closer to home in the coming days and weeks ahead to a rehabilitation hospital in Indianapolis where she can be closer to her entire family.
Karla has been with Kirlin's for 21 years as a DM for District #9. To say she loves her job would be the understatement of the century. She has developed a second family around her work and loves to brag about her store managers, employees, and the Kirlin family as a whole. Gary and Dale have always placed their employees first, a tremendously important quality to Karla, and she has been humbled to work with them over these past 21 years.
Jim served as the transportation director for the Duneland Schools since the spring of 2002 after retiring from the Indiana State Police with 34 years of service. He was the consummate worker and compassionate family man. He loved to help everyone, without question or reciprocation, and was highly involved with St. Patricks church in Chesterton. Hundreds of colleagues, friends, and family members are all mourning the loss of Jim, and the family thanks them for their incredible outpouring of love, support, and kind words since this tragedy took place.
Together, Karla and Jim had two sons, one daughter, and six grandchildren while being married for over 37 years.
The Kirlin's family is pleased to offer a fund of support for Karla's recovery along with the support of the family for Jim's services.
We kindly ask that you please consider donating any amount, none too small, to assist with this process. Needless to say, Karla is certainly enduring the most difficult period of her life right now both emotionally and physically, and our hearts and minds are with her as we move towards seeing her return to the Kirlin's family.
