Karla will leben - Karla wants to live

Mein Name ist Sarah, ich bin 37 Jahre alt und wohne in Rödermark. Aufgewachsen bin ich in Dreieich-Sprendlingen, hier bin ich mit Karla zur Grundschule Schillerschule gegangen, als auch später auf die Weibelfeldschule. Als junge Erwachsene zog sie nach Kalifornien (sie ist Deutsch-Amerikanerin). Bei Karla wurde vor kurzem ein sehr bösartiger und sehr seltener Krebs diagnostiziert - anaplastischer Schilddrüsenkrebs (ATC). Es gibt nur 1-2 Fälle pro Million - leider ist sie eine von ihnen. ATC ist resistent gegen herkömmliche Chemo- und Strahlentherapie, und die durchschnittliche Überlebensrate liegt bei 6 Monaten, während 1 von 5 Personen 12 Monate oder länger überlebt. Karla wurde bereits operier und erhält derzeit in Texas eine Immuntherapie. Flüge, Aufenthalt usw. werden von ihren Ersparnissen bezahlt - ganz zu schweigen von ihren monatlichen Fixkosten. Gedanken und Gebete sind mehr als willkommen, aber sie bezahlen nicht ihre Rechnungen. Bitte hilf mir, sie zu unterstützen - jeder Euro zählt!

My name is Sarah, I'm 37 years old and live near Dreieich, Germany. This fundraiser is not for me though - it is for my childhood friend Karla. By the time she was a teenager she moved to California (she's German-American). Karla recently was diagnosed with a very malignant and very rare cancer - Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer (ATC). There are only 1-2 cases per million - unfortunately she's one of them. ATC is resistant to conventional chemo / radiation treatment and the average survival rate is 6 months while 1 in 5 people live 12 months or longer. Karla already had surgery and is currently receiving a genetically targeted immune therapy in Texas. Flights, hotel rooms etc are paid from her savings - not to mention her monthly fixed costs.
