Karla McLendon's Fund to Beat Breast Cancer

A message from the family:

As some of you may already know, our lovely Karla has recently been medically diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer, following a stage 2 diagnosis from last year. She is 52 years old and a wonderful mother to her two children, Kayla (25) and Isaiah (19). She has been a leader in education in Gwinnett and Dekalb counties, serving our youth for the past 20 years. Karla is a supportive and caring mother, daughter, sister and a thoughtful friend to many. She has a huge heart, and because of this, she has touched so many lives in such a positive way. Now, Karla is the one who needs support to see her and her family through this trying journey.

In July 2021, she was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer, went through several rounds of chemotherapy, and had surgery in February 2022 to remove a tumor and some affected lymph nodes. The following month, just before she was due for radiation, she requested a PET scan where they found that her aggressive form of cancer had quickly spread to her liver and chest wall and that she is now Stage 4. She was told she would need chemotherapy indefinitely. Unfortunately, the financial expenses at this point are coming out of pocket, and the insurance she currently has ends on November 30th. We aim to get Karla to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX, Sloane Kettering in New York City, NY, and LifeSpring Cancer Treatment Center in Seattle, WA for second opinions ASAP.

Karla has always been the most encouraging person. She sees the best in people and lives her life cheering on and supporting others. She has always given to others without a second thought. Her faith in God only strengthens this optimistic attitude. The combination of positivity and faith is something that she needs now more than ever, as it will be the superpower to beat this cancer.

This page was started in hopes of removing any financial stress or burden from Karla and her family as they continue to fight this terrible disease.
