At the age of 45 years old, Karl Allen and his wife Renée are in need of our support.
Karl is currently facing his 118th day in hospital and is suffering from kidney failure brought on by Type 1 diabetes. While managing this disease most of his life, Karl`s health began deteriorating last winter which lead him to begin peritoneal dialysis for 9 hours every night at home, Karl`s health took a turn for the worse this past summer, which involved an emergency ambulance ride to the hospital on July 1, 2020 where Covid-19 restrictions limited Renée's access to him.
Karl has now undergone 7 major surgeries resulting in the loss of both legs below the knee and is still receiving hemo dialysis 3 times a week. Karl has been strong through this process with the support of Renée and his family, despite the amount of physical pain and anguish he has endured. The road ahead still has some curves to maneuver, including finding a match for a new kidney, however Karl`s determination and positive attitude along with the support of his family and network of friends is going to help see him through this.
Karl has worked over 20 years for the County of Northumberland, where he managed the waste and recycling operations. On top of all the hurdles Karl and Renée have faced, Karl has recently had his long term benefits activated which reduces his income by almost fifty percent.
Karl is a great guy, who has a passion for hunting, curling, NASCAR, smoked rib competitions and an unwavering love for their two fur babies Remi and Frankie.
There are many areas that will require financial resources in the months to come to assist in Karl's journey and his ability to recover outside of the hospital.
You can support Karl by donating to this campaign, sharing his story through your social networks, sending him a message of support to help him through the long days in the hospital or fill out an application to become a living organ donor.
