In mid-December in a New York City hospital, our family member, Karissa Obeso-Theus, will undergo a kidney transplant operation to donate that organ to her sister Michelle whose current transplant from 2 years ago is failing. Even with a healthy regimen and diet, Michelle's kidney health has greatly deteriorated in the past year. She is facing an uphill battle without immediate help.

Karissa recently learned that she is a perfect match and qualifies to donate a kidney. While medical insurance covers the transplant procedure, other related costs once she leaves the hospital are not covered during the up to 2-3 week recovery period. Unfortunately, Karissa will only be in the hospital a few days, and the remainder of her recovery will be in a hospital bed in a hotel - an expense she didn't anticipate. Hospital administrators just told her she is unable to recover in the same NYC apartment as her sister due to cross-contamination concerns.

We are attempting to raise funds for what is expected to be an exorbitantly expensive hotel-stay recovery period. Karissa hasn't asked us to do this, but we know she could use any help possible. She's a kind loving, and caring member of the family and friend to many. She has always been generous on many occasions and now needs our help.
