Karissa Tevis' Fearless Fight for Therapy

Hello again,
4 years later my sister and I are organizing this Go Fund Me for our dearest friend in the world, Karissa Tevis. The story started again on Tuesday, 3/3/2020, where Karissa suffered a hemorrhage stroke from the Cavernous Malformation that remained in her brain. The stroke caused loss of her peripheral vision in her right eye, facial drooping and numbness, loss of right hand motor skills, shoulder Subluxation and right foot ankle issues.
Karissa was told again surgery would be the best decision because leaving that in her brain was like a time bomb that could explode at any second which the deficit could be life threatening. Karissa again reached back out to Barrows Neurological Institute in Phoenix Arizona where now Neurosurgeon Dr. Lawton took over for Dr. Spetzler who retired and performed Karissa’s first surgery. Dr. Lawton told Karissa that he wanted to give her her life back. They have a new technique that they have been using the last 2 years where all 27 surgeries have been successful. No other surgeon we met with could tell her the same.
On Thursday, 8/27/2020, Karissa had her 2nd brain surgery back at Barrows where Dr. Lawton successfully removed 100% of the cavernous malformation. Karissa just returned back home to South Florida after a month in Arizona where Karissa will now start her vigorous out patient therapy program.
She will need Neuro PT, Neuro OT, Neuro Speech and Neuro Psychology for many months. Some not covered under insurance and her insurance ends Dec. 31, since she was furloughed from the pandemic. One of the facilities, NeuroFit 360,she will be using doesn’t take insurance and it will cost $100 hour. But this type of therapy is needed in addition to her covered therapy.
Today I am asking you again from the bottom of my heart to help raise her up and help relieve any burden from her recovery with a donation or just a positive thought. Anything is greatly appreciated and will no doubt help bring our best friend back to her loving and awesome self. Please donate and share to anyone who has a heart for helping those in need...We will forever be grateful and when Karissa is back and the pandemic is over we will no doubt have the BIGGEST celebration!
