Kari's Lung Surgery

My sister, Kari Samuel, is a warrior.

She made it through throat cancer treatment starting in Sept 21 and then brain surgery to fix an aneurysm in Dec 2022. Most days she is 98% good with some lingering brain "stuff".

On April 4, Kari is having lung surgery to remove a nodule found on her most recent CT scan. It is possible lung cancer, but they will not know for sure or to what extent until they do pathology during surgery.

The extent of the surgery is open, as they will first do a wedge resection and send the nodule to pathology during surgery. Best case scenario is it's not cancer. Done! If pathology indicates, more or all of that lung lobe might be removed.

After surgery, Kari will be in UW Hospital (University Ave, Madison) for about 5 days. She will go home with a drainage tube in her chest. Recovery is expected to be at least 6 weeks, during which she will not be able to work.
