BE A SUPERHERO TO OUR SUPERHERO

Kayden is a buoyant little 6 year old boy. He loves superheroes! His current favorites are Wolverine, Antman, and Batman. He loves to dress up. He has a chest full of all different occupations and superheroes and loves to mix and match his own creations.  Kayden wants to be a policeman when he grows up.  He says: “A good cop, not a crooked cop.”

Recently, Kayden was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS).  It is a rare type of cancer that forms in soft tissue. RMS can occur at any age, but it most often affects children.  It is a large mass found on the left side of his skull putting pressure on his eye and ear.

Kayden has three brothers: Jacob 10, Landon 7, and Abel 4.  And fabulous parents, Megan and Tim.

Kayden’s parents, Megan and Tim are fortunate that he is under the amazing care of Dr. Zhihong Wang at Childrens' Hospital of Richmond at Virginia Commonwealth University.

The recent test results have been promising. There does not appear to be  damage to the optic nerve although the pressure of the tumor has caused his eye to remain closed. Chemo should reduce the size of the tumor and allow his eye to reopen. Because he is experiencing hearing loss they have inserted a tube to drain the fluid in his eardrum and that should result in the return of his hearing. The tumor has not attached to the nerve.

Kayden is in a clinical study and will receive aggressive radiation and chemotherapy.

When Kayden is "in patient" they can stay at the Ronald McDonald House at no cost.  However, many of these appointments are outpatient and should they have multiple appointments they will most likely be staying overnight in Richmond.

Donations would cover their travel expenses, food expenses and outside housing expenses when Kayden is not in patient.

Megan is a stay at home Mom and is working on a degree in Human Health and Services.  Megan is graduating with honors this month and is expecting to find work post graduation. Tim is in the Virginia Army National Guard he has completed his training as an Automated Logistics Specialist. He has had trouble finding a job in the area with that profession.  Tim was employed at Logan's Roadhouse Restaurant, their parent company closed the restaurants permanently.  He continues to seek employment.  One parent has to be home to supervise the online education of the children during Covid.
