KARI NIETERT RECOVERY
“One day you will tell your story of how you overcame what you went through
and it will be someone else’s survival guide.” Brene Brown
Kari Nietert,
a Delaware native,
a Dimitra Yoga instructor,
a massage therapist,
a student & a healer,
an Heirloom bartender,
a sister, a daughter & a granddaughter,
a best friend & a great listener
a vegetarian, a runner, and an advocate…
Kari was severely injured in a rock climbing accident on Saturday, January 9th, 2021. Kari fell 35 feet directly off of a rock wall. In that moment, her life was altered. The impact of the tremendous fall caused her ankles to become utterly mangled and shattered, as well as her spine to be under severe pressure forming a lumber 2 injury. Her road to recovery is slated as a long path, full of twisting roads, immense physical challenges, and mental endurance.
Kari was airlifted directly to Christiana Hospital from the fall site, where she spent three weeks in the critical care/trauma units. Under the amazing team of a trauma orthopedic surgeon & neurosurgeon, Kari had three major operations in less than 10 days, in hopes of “saving her livelihood”. Her recovery was alone, as Covid restrictions did not allow family or friends to visit.
After her demanding and intricate surgeries, Kari was transferred to Wilmington Hospital, an acute rehab facility, to begin a grueling therapy program— both physical as she battles healing her body, and occupational as she begins to re-learn how to live and how to function in her new normal.
Most recently, Kari completed a week long visit to PAM – a sub acute rehab facility in Dover, DE, where she was able to receive more one on one attention for her spinal and ankle injuries. With only a short visit to PAM under her belt, Kari is back in upstate Delaware where she has started outpatient physical therapy sessions at University of Delaware, in their state of the art facility.
For those that know Kari, it will come as no surprise that her doctors and care team are in awe of her strength, her positivity, her perseverance. As a bright light for all, each individual who interacts with her in this new environment is full of hope, inspiration, but also realism— her road to recovery is long, a feat not for the faint of heart. And now Kari needs our help.
The monies raised from this Go Fund Me will go towards Kari’s current and future well being:
*Additional physical & occupational therapy sessions not covered thru her current health insurance plan.
*Ongoing counseling sessions for Kari’s current and future well being.
*Current & future transportation to and from all doctor’s visits.
*Necessities to help Kari navigate her new daily routine.
*Long term housing goals - rent, utilities, etc
