Kari Dhaemers needs us to rally!

Hi guys... What a crappy way to be reaching out to you all. Yet, I am letting you all know that one of our own needs us. Kari is a gem to so many. She is our laugh in a glass, our sports girl, PICC expert, IV team savior, lake girl, country girl, experienced PICU nurse and most importantly, our true friend. She has been there for us when we didn't think we needed her and, most importantly, when we did need her.

On May 2nd, Kari was in Arizona between her travel nursing assignments when she experienced an awful headache, lost movement in her legs and passed out. She was rushed to Scottsdale Osborn Trauma Center, where they immediately found her suffering from a ruptured brain aneurysm bleeding into her subarachnoid space. She had an EVD placed emergently and then went into OR where they were able to do a craniectomy to clip the aneurysm.

Kari has been in the ICU since that day. Though she is extubated and has had her EVD removed from her brain, she still needs continued CTs and cerebral angiograms to help get rid of the vasospasms causing severe confusion, lethargy, and delays.

Kari isn't going to be back at work anytime soon. Her speech is quiet and sparse but audible and her motor skills excel but knowing time frames, people, location, what she did 5 minutes ago and why she has staples down her braids is where the blip occurs. This is where we need to rally for her. She needs us. She would hate me for asking for help but we are at the point where she and I had tears in our eyes today because of the unknown.

She knows she has "things" she has to pay and do but learning to count change and writing lists seems to be foreign to her right now.

We can rally. You all have been asking what you can do.

Over the past week her close friends are beginning to see the reality.

She is going to need help with these medical bills coming in, upcoming rehab and daily living costs.

She needs to rest. Her brain needs to rest.
