Hi, my name is Lisa and I’m setting up this Gofundme for my sister Kari to help defray the cost of doctor’s visits, surgeries, and everything else involved with a life-threatening disease. If you know Kari, you know she is a strong-willed, independent fighter. But Kari is now dealing with a myriad of health issues due to her Type I Diabetes and realized that she can’t do it alone. We all know the Kari that is active, witty, fun and enjoys playing games with family and friends. As her health declines, she is no longer able to do the things she loves nearly as often or at all. I would like to help alleviate some of the stress and mountains of costs that she has and will continue to endure as she prepares for a kidney transplant once a donor can be found.

A few of her current challenges are:

• Type I diabetes from age 15

• Charcot Foot (Basically broken, misshapen foot - always in a boot now, until surgery can be performed)

• Skin is failing (1st organ failure)

• Kidneys are in late stage 4 (Stage 5 is kidney failure) and will be on Dialysis soon

• Diabetic Retinopathy – Retina surgery to prevent blindness

• Diabetic neuropathy – losing sensation in feet or ends of fingers (risks of falls, injuries and infections). Any infection that requires antibiotics are very hard on what’s left of her kidneys

• Congestive heart failure – causing additional diet restrictions, shortness of breath and lethargy

• Severe Anemia – adding to her heart problems

These are some of the obstacles Kari is currently dealing with. Kari has navigated the journey thus far through countless doctors, specialists and surgeon meetings. We are at a pivotal point in her journey and we are raising this money to help alleviate costs and stress that she has endured as she awaits a kidney transplant.
