Karen Stephenson's car accident

Donation protected

On April 7th Karen was in a horrible single car accident driving back to government job after picking up some lunch. Even though she was wearing her seatbelt, EMT's arrived with her unresponsive with major injuries. They determined she would need to be lifeflighted to Palomar trauma center. She was intubated during the flight to the hospital and had a trauma team waiting for her arival. Once there they ran several tests that showed she had a badly broken tibia, fibula, and femur along with a shattered kneecap. She was also banged and bruised up. From the ER she was transferred to the ICU and started breathing again on her own. That night she went into her first surgery to start the repair on her tibia, fibula, and femur. She was left in traction for two and a half weeks before her next surgery. Her second surgery was to do more repairs on her broken bones and also to now repair her kneecap. She spent 4 weeks in the hospital before getting transported to another hospital for inpatient rehab. During her week and a half stay at the rehab, she learned that she was ineligible for disability since she's a federal employee. She has health insurance, but it's not going to cover a large portion of her hospital bills. Her car insurance also won't cover much. She has bills that are going to start pilling up, every day expenses, and still a long road to recovery before she's back on her feet. She is now out of the rehab hospital but will need outpatient rehab 3 days a week along with home nurses visits to check on her care. If that wasn't enough, she also has to go to see other doctors to determine what's going on that caused her to black out and crash the car. If you know Karen, you know she would go out of her way to help anyone in need. She's got a huge heart and is such a kind person. She's sarcastic, funny, and has stayed pretty positive through everything she's been through. She's been there for so many people in their rough  times in life, but is stubborn to letting people help her. That's why her friends and sister are doing this for her!! She's going through her rough patch in life and needs help!! Even if you don't personally know her, donating any amount would be absolutely awesome!! We're hoping we can help take some of the financial  stress off of her so she can focus on healing.

Thank you for reading this and please please help out an awesome chick !!

Even in a ton of pain, she was still being her silly awesome self.
