A Miracle for Karen Leal – Help Us Fight for Her Life and Recovery:
Kevin and Karen Leal have been like parents to me. They have loved me, guided me, and stood by our side since the day we met. Today, I am reaching out with a heavy heart but unshakable faith, asking for your help as Karen faces the battle of her life.
Just today, Karen began her first kidney dialysis treatment. Our hope is that this will give her kidneys the rest they need to be restored. We are fervently praying for a miracle – that her kidney function will return to normal and that she will regain her appetite and strength. We believe in a God who heals and restores, and we are trusting Him for a full recovery.
An Unexpected Turn of Events:
Karen’s journey has been nothing short of surreal. Just a month ago, she walked into the hospital with what seemed like a minor infection in her toe. Little did we know that this would mark the beginning of an intense and exhausting ordeal.
Due to complications from an infection, Karen was admitted to the hospital where she faced unexpected challenges. Because of a health insurance switch from United to Cigna—made after a manipulative sales call—she found herself in the hands of doctors outside her network. Without any established relationship history, the medical care she received was not what she needed.
They treated her for sepsis with Vancomycin, a strong antibiotic that, tragically, caused severe kidney damage. Today, only 10% of her kidney function remains.
After two long weeks, the Leal family made the decision to transfer her to Baptist Hospital. The care there was significantly better, but the damage had already settled in. Now, she faces two months of dialysis, hoping and praying for a miracle that her kidneys will "reboot."
More Than Just Physical Pain
Karen also underwent toe amputation just two days ago, and she's currently grappling with the physical and emotional pain of that loss. Exhausted by nearly a month in the hospital, she’s fighting not just for her physical health but also her mental well-being. The memory issues she battles have been magnified by the fatigue, often leaving her disoriented and confused.
Kevin has been by her side almost every day because she has been unable to advocate for herself. This has meant canceling personal commitments and rearranging life to ensure Karen receives the love, care, and attention she deserves.
Why We Need Your Help:
With mounting medical bills, ongoing dialysis treatments, and the costs associated with post-amputation care, the financial burden on Kevin and Karen is overwhelming. The switch in insurance left them with out-of-network expenses they were never prepared for.
We are asking for your help to:
- Cover the cost of dialysis treatments for the next two months.
- Assist with medical bills from two hospital stays and the toe amputation surgery.
- Support her ongoing recovery, including physical therapy and home care assistance.
Faith in the Midst of the Storm
In the middle of this battle, we have felt the tangible prayers and support from our community. It truly feels like an awesome visitation from God. We are not relying on “hype faith” but are expectant of a miracle visitation – a testimony of God’s grace. We believe Karen’s story is meant to be a “trophy of His grace,” a testament to His healing power and faithfulness.
Romans 8:18 resonates deeply with us:
“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.”
We are standing on this promise, believing that Karen’s healing is not just possible but imminent.
