Karen's Journey: Beating Cancer Together

Hello my name is Karen I am a hairstylist and work for Salon Centric. In March I went to the ER with lower left side pain. I was admitted that day March 14. I didn’t expected to get the news I received that day that I had an infection in my colon called diverticulitis but it went further then that 48 hours or more later I was having a major surgery to see what was going on inside. Before that I had a minor surgery to remove the infection on Saturday well it was t working as planned so surgery it was. When I went into surgery I thought they were to just remove the infection I would stay a few days and go home to heal and be back to work, well the Dr had other plans as soon as she went in to remove said infection my body had surprisingly had two tumors in my colon that needed to be removed and the surgeon had to open my abdomen up from above belly button to almost my lady parts. I was sleeping had no idea to I was awaken with the semi bad news that it was cancer she removed half my colon and stapled me back up and 6 hours later I was in my room sleeping off my nightmare. I was in my room 15 days it was stressful to know I have cancer and that my recovery is going to be intense both mentally and physically. I don’t normally ask for assistance cause I think I can do it all iykyk me I can handle a lot but this being out of work is not normal for me. I know times are tough for everyone and but anything helps. I am truly grateful for anything and I want to thank every for all the help they have already.
