My road has been a long and winding for many years. In 1996 I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and lived my life fully until 2012 . A relapse from my MS led me to a road I probably never would have embarked upon otherwise. My symptoms became so extreme I just felt in my gut it was something more and that instinct has proven to be right. Since December 2012, I have been unable to work and was released from my job. Hopefully this surgery will resolve some of my symptoms.
I discovered that I also have a pineal gland cyst/tumor in my brain. The unfortunate part is 98% of the medical field labels these little invaders as "incidental findings & are asymptomatic", which was the exact response I received from my neurologist. However, it didn't make sense to me, something growing deep in my brain can't cause symptoms, it's invading space intended for what's already there, my brain. So off I went doing my own research and was extremely fortunate to stumble upon a Facebook group called "Pineal Cyst". I joined the private group and from that moment on my world of hope to feel better split wide open.
This group led me to Dr. Dong Kim, a neurosurgeon in Houston,TX. Luckily for me, he's practically in my backyard, just a 3 hour drive. This past Tuesday, June 23rd 2015, I finally met Dr. Kim after months of waiting. And in that single visit he uttered words I had been praying to hear, he considered me a candidate for surgery. So now my next journey begins, the road to brain surgery which is a daunting thought but I feel in my soul this is my answer to many of my symptoms I carry daily. This road not only brings hope but also the underlying stress of the financial burden it poses. For anyone who reads this and is able to help, I can only return a small but powerful thank you, you've helped to change my life.
