Karen -- Epitome of grace, kindness, and compassion:

Anyone that knows Karen knows that she truly loves unconditionally.

They also know that she has the grit and determination to kick ass with whatever cards she is dealt in life.
She has, professed, “absolutely no regrets”.  How many people get to say that?!

She is a positive force in the lives of everyone who has the pleasure of meeting her, many of whom would never guess that she struggles because she tirelessly radiates love, hope, and unwavering optimism.

Karen has always chosen to enjoy life, every moment, to the fullest.

In between her numerous battles with cancer, she makes sure each and everyone in her life feels loved.  She has been a constant presence at both her boys’ schools; teaching art to kids from kindergarten to sixth grade, taking on the classroom projects for fundraising, crushing the Halloween festivals, best snack maker this side of the Mississippi.   Always on the sidelines at not only her own kids’ sporting events but those of her nieces, nephews, & friends every opportunity possible. She has been everyone’s cheerleader in life, even when giving them the worst news possible about herself.

Another thing Karen loves and is good at is crafting!  Over the years Karen has delved into learning many different art techniques and craft projects.  To name a few -- aprons, resin coasters, t-shirts (and numerous other vinyl projects), mosaic, paint-pouring, bracelets, cookie baking, creepy doll making, the list goes on-and-on.  Not only does she make the gifts for others, she hosts craft nights where she will invite friends and family over, purchase the supplies, set-up and teach everyone how to create their own masterpieces.

At the time of her first diagnosis, her boys, Nick and Shawn, were one and three. They are now 14 and 16, and Karen has recently received her 6th diagnosis. For most of their lives she has been battling illness and yet she has never complained or questioned why this experience has been her fate.

Cancer Boot Camp at Reno Center for Integrative Medicine

Current Treatment Plan & Costs:

The type of cancer she has most recently been diagnosed with -- Triton Tumor in her lungs, is as aggressive as it is rare. There is no other option for her in the field of traditional medicine. She can’t endure another round of chemo therapy because of her previous stem cell transplants and her fragile system won’t tolerate it. Radiation is definitely not an option, as the cancer she was most recently diagnosed with is a secondary cancer caused by the radiation.

She is currently seeking treatment at Reno Integrative Medicine and it has been decided that the best course of action for her is to enlist in a cancer treatment program called, Cancer Boot Camp at The Reno Center for Integrative Medicine. This “boot camp” aims to target and destroy cancer cells while, at the same time, stabilizing and boosting the immune system. This treatment plan will cost in excess of $40,000 which, in addition to fighting for her life, her family will need to come up with. Over the course of her many treatments, she and her husband, Jay, have never asked for any assistance. Their insurance hasn’t covered (never does) all of the costs they have incurred and now they are met with the need to come up with this considerable sum. Karen is slated to start this treatment plan on December 2nd, as time is extremely important with this aggressive form of cancer.

How you can help:

Please keep Karen in your thoughts and faith, it is comforting and appreciated. Financial assistance is needed and anything you can contribute will be helpful. If you can’t make a monetary contribution perhaps you can pass this story along to another who is looking for a champion to face down this ugly disease. Please pray that these treatments are successful in extending the time her family gets to have with this magnetic force of a woman. Blessings to you and yours for finding a way to be part of Karen’s Entourage.
