Karen's Cancer Fight

Doação protegida
You have cancer. Three words no one ever wants to hear. Karen's journey began in June of 2014 at the age of 47 where a routine appendix surgery also turned into a stage 2a colon cancer diagnosis. 48 short hours later Karen underwent a second surgery that consisted of removing a large section of her right colon to remove the cancer and ensure it had not spread. As one can imagine, her life at this time was filled with so many emotions. Most consisted of shock, anger, and denial, however she found strength and was so thankful for the surgeon working in the ER that evening that saw an area during a routine surgery that just did not look quite right and prompted further investigation. If not for this doctor, it is possible the cancer would have gone years untreated and possibly taken her life. Truly a blessing.

Since the diagnosis, Karen has been battling along with way attending routine oncologist visits participating in various lab work and procedures. There have been some scares along the way, including two collapsed lungs with additional surgeries, but thankfully unrelated to the cancer until recently.

At one of Karen's most recent routine appointments, she learned the cancer to her colon has returned. This time the doctors say it is Stage 4. Last month, she underwent ANOTHER surgery to remove the cancer and has been receiving chemotherapy. This next journey with colon cancer was completely unexpected and is just getting underway.  Karen is strong, but the stress and financial burden of undergoing cancer treatment is overwhelming. The doctors are hopeful doing chemo will keep the cancer away for good!

The goal is to take a little of the burden off of Karen by sharing her story.  She continues to work during her treatments, but unfortunately due to the side effects, is only able to work part time and is not offered long or short term disability.

If you can and it is in your heart to donate to help with the overwhelming financial cost of treatment, Karen, her family, and friends will be forever grateful. Karen IS A SURVIVOR and will kick cancer's ass!

Thank you for taking the time to read! Please post/share.
