Hi, my name is Alison Burrowes, I am a long time friend of a woman who, now has to be on Dialysis for the rest of her life, almost blind in both eyes and unable to work, all stemming from being unable to find a job because of our terrible economy and, unable to afford her medication because of our horrific health care system in the US. She is now in serious financial need, due to a series of unfortunate events explained below. I would love to be able to assist her, so I am reaching out for help.
Her name is Karen Wah, and she has always been a very independent woman, up until this point in her life, following these unfortunate events. For starters, she has had diabetes for several years and has always been very adamant about keeping up with her doctor’s appointments and getting the medical treatment that is required to manage this horrible disease. However, since the end of 2022 she has been laid off from 2 jobs and been unable to find any work for the last year. As a result of this situation, she was unable to afford her diabetes (Trulicity that costs $220 without good medical insurance) and blood pressure medications, which lead to some serious medical issues.
Karen was hospitalized for several weeks with kidney and heart failure, due to a buildup of toxins and fluid in her body. She actually almost died, arriving at the hospital with blood pressure of 210/190. Due to extensive damage to her kidneys, she is now on dialysis 3 times a week. She has also developed severe Diabetic Retinopathy, and has become almost blind in both eyes. This tragedy could have been avoided if she had access to affordable medication.
These complications have deemed her unable to work and she now has to go on disability. Unfortunately, the process to become eligible for disability is going to take approximately 10 months, therefore Karen won't receive any financial help until then. She has been living off of her saving for the past year since she has not been able to find work, and that has almost run out. Karen has almost nothing left to pay her medical bills incurred, her mortgage and support herself and her elderly mother.
I am asking, whoever has it in their heart to help a women that is dealing with these unfortunate circumstances, please consider donating money to Karen's cause.
