Karen Smith died in a car accident on November 29th, leaving behind her 10 year old daughter Sloane, her 22 year old son John Wildes (Jack), and countless other loved ones. While many knew Karen as a passionate prison abolition activist who dedicated her life to criminal justice reform, Karen was first and foremost a mother. It was her favorite role and she took no end of pride in her amazing children.
The intent of this GoFundMe is to raise funds in support of Jack and Sloane. Both are ambitious, creative, intelligent, and will need all the support they can get in the wake of this monumental loss. Any funds raised here will go directly to Jack and Sloane and used as they see fit, ensuring that Karen’s primary legacy, her incredible children, are protected and supported in all future endeavors.
