Here is a description of this piece of equipment and why it is important for our clients:

A syringe driver is a small portable battery-operated pump that administers medicines subcutaneously by continuous infusion. The syringe driver is able to manage symptoms when a person is unable to swallow oral medications or when taking medications orally, or via frequent injection, is not effective. The size and weight of the syringe driver means that a person can carry it in a bag over their shoulder and continue to mobilise. They can be easily detached so that a person can have a shower. Syringe drivers are a vital piece of equipment in palliative care and enable a person to stay at home when they have troublesome symptoms, avoiding the need to go to a hospital or hospice if that is their wish.
