Dear family and friends,
Welcome once again to my fundraising page. This is the second year I am doing a GoFundMe in memory of my wife Karen. I’m sure as all of you remember I lost my beautiful and dear wife of 31 years on October 24, 2024 to the horrific and dreadful disease, ALS.
Often referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease, ALS is a progressive, fatal, neurodegenerative disease that slowly robs a person of their ability to walk, speak, swallow, and eventually to breathe.
ALS is among the most devastating neurodegenerative diseases. It affects women and men of all ages-and everyone in their household- and as noted above it typically robs a person of their ability to move, speak, swallow, and breathe within 2 to 5 years. It usually extremely difficult and time-consuming to diagnose. It took many many months fir my wife’s diagnosis to be made. Sadly, once we receive the devastating news, she succumbed to the disease just seven weeks later. ALS can strike anyone, and there is no known cause of the disease and there is no cure.
As the population ages, the worldwide number of people living with ALS is expected to rise by nearly 70% by 2040. In fact an estimated 8 million people in the United States are currently affected by a Nuro degenerative disorder; approximately 5000 people receive an ALS diagnosis each year.
I am participating in the ALS networks walk and roll to cure ALS event on Sunday, November 16 at Dignity Sports Park, Carson, California. Everything the ALS network does ensures access to essential services free of charge and accelerates the search for prevention strategies, treatments, and hopefully hopefully a cure.
Thank you once again for visiting my page!!. Please consider donating what you’re able to and support of my efforts to end ALS in memory of my beautiful wife who I miss dearly, so no one will have to suffer the way she did.
Stuart
