Karen Dunn’s recovery fund

In recent events on July 6th my mom Karen Dunn woke up in excruciating pain in her lower back. She has had back issues in the past so we all assumed that’s what was causing the pain. She still went to the doctor that day but she was diagnosed with bronchitis and pneumonia and pain medicine for her back. On July 7th the pain got worse for her and she was unable to move. My dad had gone to the chiropractor that day and while he was there he asked his chiropractor about my mom and explained her symptoms. He told my dad to have her come see him. When they arrived the chiropractor examined her and then stated that she needed to be seen immediately at the hospital. My Mom (Karen) was then transported by ambulance from their hometown in Wisconsin to United hospital in st.paul. They took xrays and found she had a fractured tailbone and loose nerve endings which was causing the pain. They decided to do surgery the next day to diminish her pain. Karen has osteoporosis and has been on medication for it for a while now. Her bones are very easily broken which would explain why she was unaware of a broken tailbone. My mom went into surgery on July 9th at 8:45pm and we received notice she was out of surgery at midnight. The surgeon spoke to my dad afterward. He told my dad that her tailbone was fractured in two places on the back side and one place on the front. They were able to place screws on the back side of her tailbone to hold it together but unfortunately they were unable to reach the front side. They made a 6 inch incision in her back from her T5 to her tailbone. Unfortunately with the way the fractures sit and her nerve endings she currently does not have any control over her bladder. The doctor stated her osteoporosis is extremely bad and it’s possible her fractures will never heal which will cause her to never have control over her bladder and will have to use catheters the rest of her life. My dad just recently spoke to the surgeon and he stated that my mom will have to be placed in a rehabilitation center for a couple months. She will not be able to Stand for 2 months minimum as the surgeon stated if she does she could move the wrong way and tear the nerves again. After rehabilitation she will have to move slowly through physical therapy to regain strength. The doctor was not happy with the medication she was taking for her osteoporosis and he recommended she take the most beneficial medication there is which is 1 shot a week and it unfortunately is expensive. It adds up to 4,000 a month for the shots and she will take them for a minimum of 2 months. Insurance will not cover any portion of the cost for the weekly shots. As you can imagine $1,000 weekly shots, emergency surgery, ambulance ride, rehabilitation, and physical therapy adds up even with insurance. I am asking for a little  help to make this road to recovery For my momma a little less stressful and most of all for my dad who always holds it together even when I’m sure he doesn’t want to. Thoughts, prayers, and shares! ❤️❤️ Thank you for all the love and support.
