In March of 2014, Karen's life changed when she was diagnosed with cancer. She went through extensive amounts of strong chemo and radiation at that time and the cancer was gone for 11 months. It came back again and they sent her to St. Paul for pinpoint radiation. Along with that treatment, she received more chemo. The cancer again went away, for 3 months this time, but came back and hasn't gone away since. She has had many rounds of chemo and the cancer is still there along with some additional problems.
At this time, she cannot have more chemo as her blood count is not coming back to normal levels due to all the treatments she's received. They continue to do tests to try and figure out why her blood numbers are not recovering. She goes for blood draws every other day and has had many transfusions of blood and platelets.
She has continued working through all of this but it's time for her to quit work and focus on her cancer fight. Those of you that know Karen, know that work has been important to her and this decision was not an easy one. The cancer fight made the decision for her and there will be some financial hardship because of it. Since her insurance is through her work, we are concerned about funding the cost of health insurance for the next few months, at which time she will qualify for Medicare. We are hoping that we can provide some support in that area so there is one less thing they need to worry about.
The money will go to Karen to help cover insurance costs for October, November and December of 2019. At that time she will qualify for Medicare. We thank you in advance for your consideration and donation. It is truly appreciated! Please keep Karen and her husband Dave in your prayers as they continue to navigate through this challenging time.
