Lighting the Way: Honouring Kareema Wanjiru Sawyer by Supporting Those in Need.
I am the mother of Kareema Sawyer and I am organising a fundraiser in memory of my daughter, who sadly passed by ending her own life on 1st June 2023 at the age of 26 she was suffering from depression and never recovered from it. Kareema was a radiant soul who filled the lives of her family and friends with warmth and joy. Her infectious laughter, great sense of humour and quirky, endearing character made her unforgettable to all who knew her. She had a special way of brightening even the darkest days, leaving those around her with laughter and cherished memories. Kareema's spirit will always be remembered as a beautiful light that touched countless hearts. There was nobody like Kareema
She had a unique personality and brought a lot of happiness to her loved ones.
Kareema was a vibrant and compassionate individual who, like many faced her struggles silently. Her journey reminds us of the importance of understanding, supporting, and advocating those that have already faced struggles, and are going through similar issues at present
As a tribute to Kareema, I am seeking to launch a foundation to help and support to mental health awareness in young people. The foundation will provide to those struggling ,to gain knowledge and guidance for their families and friends. The Kareema Sawyer foundation will support mental health by recognising signs, intervening early and ensuring they are heard before reaching crisis point. The funds will go directly towards programmes that will offer counselling, interventions, and educational resources.
My deepest wish is to ensure that no one should ever have to go through the depth of hopelessness my daughter experienced.
But to know they are valued and never alone in their pain. and I I wish to keep her spirit alive through a great cause.
As her mother, I am devastated by the loss of my only daughter. My deepest hope is to help others feel supported, and not to get to this point.
It was hard to watch Kareema’s health decline. I found it extremely difficult to get the help we needed at that time, from the Professional Services that were supposed to help. I tried to reach out to them but the response was too slow and too late.
Kareema had given up.
Families of closed loved can see signs when their loved ones are not well and there voices need to be heard and list-end to
often they come from a place of love compassion and deep concern yet they feel ignored and undervalued by the system and professionals or even the individuals they are trying to help.
Last year, the suicide rate was the highest it has been since 1999, showing that we are currently going through a crisis and the help and resources on offer are just not enough. Something needs to change, more needs to be done, and I have hope that the Kareema Sawyer Foundation will make a difference to those issues in the future.
How many more families will lose their loved ones before changes are made. Let us make a difference…❤️
I am deeply grateful for your support in this cause, whether that is through a financial contribution, spreading the word, or participating in one of our upcoming events. Every contribution will bring us one step closer to creating a world where mental health is understood, respected, and properly supported.
And I pray and wish to keep her spirit alive through a great cause…❤️

Kareema you came into this world and graced us with your presence, your huge personality, contagious smile, laughter and quick wit. Full of compassion and unconditional love for others.
To my beautiful daughter, gone too soon, your spirit lives on, leaving a legacy, a footprint that no one can ever fill.
My sweet baby girl, keep smiling, keep laughing and shining bright in heaven. Now, in the arms of the angels, you rest. I miss you deeply, I love you till eternity.
Never to be forgotten.
Until we meet again. I will always hold you in my heart.
