Hi everyone, I’m Kara. I am a 9 year old staffy x JR and I was adopted from K9 Crusaders as a puppy with my sister, Freya. I am 10 weeks post-op from spinal surgery after I somehow ruptured a disc in my spine. It all happened very quickly but luckily my hoomans managed to get me to the vets in time for surgery! Because of how bad the ruptured disc was, the material that was in the disc wrapped around my spinal cord and I have lost the use of my back legs and the use of my bladder and my bowel
I am very fortunate to have amazing hoomans looking after me as they have to express my bladder manually and help me go for a poo too.. its so embarrassing!
During the day my hoomans are giving me all the treatment they can, they even brought a red light therapy belt that I have lots of because they say that it speeds up the healing process and will help the signals between my brain and my back legs (I dont understand it but I love it because it gets nice and warm and it's very relaxing!) I also go to hydrotherapy once a week and I've just started having electro-acupuncture once a week too.. that feels so wierd!
I am getting stronger every day and small improvements are happening but I really miss being able to run and play. I used to love going to the beach and going on long walks with my family but I can't anymore. I would really benefit from having doggy wheels to help me move about outside, strengthen my core and to help my back legs even more. My hoomans said if I can just have some wheels then it would encourage me to want to move my back legs more.. I can't really do it in the harness that I have and my hoomans can't run as quickly as I would like to go. If I had wheels, I would be like Supergirl and go super fast! (Supergirls name is Kara afterall ) If I had wheels I could even play with my sister, she has been missing our daily game of tag and doesn't like going out without me.
Unfortunately I wasn’t insured so all my hoomans savings went on my surgery and now on my weekly appointments, so I'm hoping that by sharing my story that some kind hoomans like mine, might just be able to help me.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story, I appreciate anything that can help me to walk and run again.
Lots of love and kisses, Kara xxxx
