Hi, my name is Emma, and I am the Centre Director at Little Assets.

It is with heavy hearts that we share some difficult news about one of our much loved team members, Kara.

Kara has been a dedicated and cherished part of our Little Assets family for many years. Recently, she received the devastating diagnosis of a kidney lesion measuring 5.5 cm more than half the size of her kidney itself. Since then, she has been rushed into urgent urologist appointments and has been reassured that the mass is central to her kidney and has not spread. While this brings some comfort, the reality is still overwhelming: Kara must act quickly and undergo surgery to have her kidney removed. Sadly, due to the extent of the damage, there are no other options.

Kara’s surgery is scheduled for January 2nd, and she will be on sick leave from that date. Doctors have advised that she will be unable to return to work for at least six weeks following her procedure as she focuses on healing and recovery.

Kara is not only an incredible educator and employee, she is also an incredible single mum. Kara has raised her son on her own since the day she brought him home from the hospital. For the past 12 years, she has devoted herself entirely to her son, Jax, dedicating her time, love, and energy to him as a single mother. Now, after finally meeting her wonderful soon-to-be husband, Kara is faced with this new and unexpected challenge.

Facing major surgery is daunting enough, but doing so while worrying about providing for her family makes this journey even harder. With no income during her recovery, the financial strain will be significant.

This is where we, as a community, can come together.

We are hoping to raise funds to help ease the burden on Kara and her family to assist with everyday living expenses, medical costs, and to give her the peace of mind to focus fully on getting well. No donation is too small. Every contribution, share, and kind message will remind Kara that she is not facing this alone.

Kara has always shown up for others with kindness, warmth, and dedication. Now it’s our turn to show up for her.
