Hi, my name is Kara. I’m 39 years old, and in 2020 my life changed forever when I was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer.

By the grace of God and with everything in me, I fought — and I beat it. That victory will always be one of the biggest blessings of my life. But the battle didn’t end there.

The chemotherapy and radiation that saved my life also caused ongoing medical complications that I’ve been dealing with for the past five years. Recently, on February 16th, I had to undergo an emergency kidney removal surgery. It all happened so fast that I didn’t have time to financially prepare.

Because the recovery time is approximately nine weeks, I lost my job. I still have about seven more weeks before my neurologist will clear me to return to work. In the meantime, my bills are piling up, and I’m doing everything I can to stay strong and focused on healing.

As hard as it is for me to ask for help, I’ve learned that sometimes you have to be brave enough to reach out. I know help doesn’t just appear — you have to ask for it.
