Karamoja Famine Relief Project

Hi, my name is Tony and with my wife Jane we are fundraising for the same YWAM project we supported last year. This particular project staffed by African people is in N Uganda, a very poor, remote, tribal area where the name of Jesus is not known, suffering drought and starvation due to climate change.
Last year YWAM began supporting a small rural hospital unable to feed its patients. Severe malnutrition is rife in the area because they had traditionally been herders of livestock, but the drought caused the grassland vegetation to perish and so did their animals and so did some of the population. YWAM raised funds last year to buy a field near this hospital and a tractor. The local YWAM team sank a borehole into underground aquifers, and our plant sale last year contributed to a solar powered pump to raise water from the well for irrigating that field. The good news is that maize and red beans are now flourishing and feeding the hospital.
The project is still ongoing. This year has been about constructing a building near this field. The building is up and now has a roof but it is only a shell. This is where we come in, because doors and windows are needed also fixtures fittings and furniture for the inside. This building will serve as a permanent YWAM base or hub so that the 8 strong local Ugandan team can live there. There is to be a kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms and a large multi purpose lounge/ dining room/ classroom which will serve as a training base, educating the locals in agricultural methods so that they can feed themselves. Locally there is now a growing interest in Christianity as well, so the building will also be used for Christian outreach.
There is a charity Plant Sale, Coffee Morning with Cake Stall at St Peter & St Paul, Water Orton in the RLR (Robert Lloyd Room) 10-12noon on Sat 26 April. That's the Saturday after Easter.
