Help Karalyn pay for her caregivers
Donation protected
Hello everyone! Our names are Michelle and Colleen. We would like to raise funds for my amazing friend Karalyn MacGillivary. Karalyn is a neighbor, a friend and an inspiration. She lights up any room she is in with her personality, positive attitude and smile. While many of us donate our time and money to causes, I am asking for you to open your hearts and help our dear friend who really needs it right now. Here is her story and what has happened.
Karalyn was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy when she was 14 years old. She has lived with this for over 30 years. Karalyn is permanently in a wheel chair and has many challenges that require care for normal everyday things we all take for granted. Getting in and out of bed, using the rest room, putting on clothes etc. Throughout the time she has been disabled, her mother has been her primary caregiver. Recently, her mother contracted Covid. The medication caused her mother to become nauseated and off-balance which resulted in her falling in the middle of the night. Her mother fractured her pelvis and cannot take care of Karalyn until it heals.
Consequently, Karalyn needs to rely on an agency to care for her which requires out of pocket (private pay) expense. Insurance does not cover what’s called “private duty” – helping Karalyn transfer from her bed to her wheelchair, from her wheelchair to the commode and back, showering and dressing her.
Her care costs her $1,500 a week and financially has become a hardship to her and her family. It is unknown at this time how long it will take for her mother’s pelvis to heal and Karalyn will need to rely on outside help until she is recovered.
We would greatly appreciate your empathetic and generous support for our cherished friend Karalyn as she navigates this current and apparent ongoing challenge. Your donation will go directly to her care.
I am grateful that you have taken the time to read this and to donate. Please feel free to share this story with anyone, in order to help her as best as we can.
With all of our appreciation for your generosity,
Michelle & Colleen
